Video Production in the Field

12 hours | Cost: $50 | Limited to 8 or 12 students| Pre-Requisite: Orientation

This 2-week course will give you skills and hands-on experience using a Panasonic AVCCAM, a professional-grade digital video camera. In addition to camera operation, you’ll learn to operate sound equipment, tripods and portable light kits. Successful completion leads to becoming a Certified Community Producer, which gives you free access to use our video equipment to produce your Brooklyn Free Speech TV Show.

Students must provide their own headphones for this class. In order to successfully complete this course, students must be comfortable using a computer.

Registration and Payment Options

Money orders and checks (made out to BRIC Arts Media) are accepted when registering for the class in person. Credit card payments are accepted online only.If you reserve a spot and pay online, you are required to bring a copy of a utility bill listing your name and Brooklyn address as well as an unexpired government-issued photo ID prior to the first class.(Please arrive at least 30 minute prior to the start of the first class to complete your registration.)

You will not be permitted to take the class or receive a refund for your online payment if you do not meet the following qualifications prior to the first day of class:

  • You have attended a BRIC Media Education Orientation.
  • You can provide proof of residency prior to the class with a recent utility bill.
  • You can provide proof of age with a government issued ID.

Call Public Equipment at 718.683.5645 to verify your Orientation status or with any questions about payments, spot availability or for further assistance.All classes take place at the Community Media Center in BRIC House located at 647 Fulton Street in Brooklyn.

Please note: If you register for a class and are unable to attend the first session, you must contact our Education Coordinator 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE FIRST CLASS. The Education Coordinator may reached at 718.683.5662. Failure to alert us to your absence on the first day of class will forfeit your seat and a refund will not be issued.

This Fall, we will also hold Video Production in the Field Classes at two Brooklyn Public Library Branches-- Kings Highway Library (at 2115 Ocean Ave) and New Lots Library (at 665 New Lots Ave). YOU DO NOT NEED TO ATTEND AN ORIENTATION to take Video Production in the Field at the Kings Highway or New Lots Library branches.

However,the rules regarding paperwork still apply: You will not be permitted to take the class or receive a refund for your online payment if you do not meet the following qualifications on the first day of class:
