Community Media Center

BRIC Community Media Center provides all Brooklynites with access to studio facilities, equipment and training. During BRIC Arts | Media House renovations, our media facility is temporarily located at 242 3rd Street in Gowanus.
Our interim location has a studio, a mini-studio and six editing bays equipped with AVID editing software and a media training lab. It also houses BRIC's community media offices, and is home to the BCAT TV Network and Brooklyn Center for Media Education
The majority of our facility is reserved for use by our Center Certified Community Producers. After completion of basic studio and/or field and editing classes at the Brooklyn Center for Media Education, our Certified Community Producers are able to use our studios, editing bays, cameras and other production equipment free of charge. Our facility contains six editing bays available for use by our Non-Linear Editing Certified Community Producers. Each bay may be reserved in four-hour increments. Reservations must be with our Public Equipment staff. Each bay contains:
  • 19 x 12 Dell Monitors
  • DVD Burner
  • Dell Precision T3500 w/ Windows 7 OS
  • Avid Media Composer 5
  • MPEG Streamclip
  • Roxio Creator Pro

Main Studio at 242 3rd Street

The Main Studio is used by our Studio Certified Community Producers for all BCAT TV Network studio productions. The main studio can be used for taped productions as well as live cablecasts. It may be reserved in four-hour increments. Reservations for the main studio as well as arrangements for live cablecasts must be made with our Public Equipment Staff. The Main Studio is equipped with:

  • Sony DXC-D35 Digital Video Cameras
  • Strand LX Lighting Console
  • WinCue LT Teleprompter

Our Studio Control Room must be staffed with at least four Studio Certified Community Producers. Use of the control room is included with the reservation of the Main Studio.The Main Studio Control is equipped with:

  • Inscriber CG Supreme 4.1.1.0. Character Generator
  • Delta DLX Mixing Console
  • Lexicon MPX 550 Dual Channel Sound Effect Processors
  • Denon DN-T620 Precision Audio Component/CD/Cassette Combi-Deck
  • Shure FP410 Intellimix Auto Mixers
  • Marshall V-R151DP-AFSD 15" LDC Monitors
  • Ross Synergy 100 Video Switcher Board
  • WinCue LT Teleprompter

Our Mini Studio is perfect for call-in shows or for productions for one Studio Certified Community Producer. The Mini Studio may be reserved  for two-hour sessions. Reservations must be made with our Public Equipment Staff. The Mini Studio has:

Our Field Certified Community Producers are authorized to check out equipment from the BRIC Community Media Center free of charge. Reservations for equipment must be made ahead of time with our Public Equipment staff. Equipment available for check out includes:

  • Panasonic AVCCAMs
  • Shure SM-58 Handheld Mics
  • Shure SM-93 Lavalier Mics
  • Lowel Omni 3 Piece Light Kits
  •  Pearstone VT2500B

 

The Media Training Lab is used for Brooklyn Center for Media Education classes and workshops. Students are given hands-on training with the same models and equipment found in our editing bays and available for check-out, as well as instruction in online media platforms like videoblogging and social media. On off-hours, the Media Training Lab is used by Certified Community Producers to conduct online research, additional training or for overflow editing reservations. The Media Training Lab is not available for reservation.


The BCAT TV Network is cablecast from Master Control. Presently the BCAT TV Network can be seen on Time Warner, Cablevision, RCN and Verizon channels as well as streaming online.
