Founded in 2016 by Tatiana Desardouin with a mission to promote the authenticity and contributions of social dance styles and cultures like street and clubbing, Passion Fruit Dance Company comes to the park for the world premiere of TRAPPED, a brand new work with developmental support from BRIC, and developed at MASS MoCA and the Guggenheim’s Works & Process residency program.

Founded in 2016 by Tatiana Desardouin with a mission to promote the authenticity and contributions of social dance styles and cultures like street and clubbing, Passion Fruit Dance Company comes to the park for the world premiere of TRAPPED, a brand new work with developmental support from BRIC. by BRIC and developed at MASS MoCA and the Guggenheim’s Works & Process residency program. TRAPPED features music by the Detroit-based house producer Saadiq Bolden, whose sounds Desardouin used to battle to and who will DJ a warm-up set with visuals that segues into a live soundtrack to Passion Fruit’s performance. After the show, stay for an audience-wide dance party, hosted by the DJ collective Soul Summit and St. James Joy, a streetwise celebration that sprang up in Fort Greene during the pandemic honoring the distinguished history of black house music. The night, conceived in collaboration with Desardouin, continues BRIC’s tradition of celebrating and providing a platform for dance styles outside the mainstream contemporary dance world.

The Lena Horne Bandshell at Prospect Park is home to BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, New York’s longest-running, free outdoor performing arts festival. Named to honor the legendary singer, actress, dancer, and Brooklyn native Lena Horne, the Bandshell is transformed into a venue every summer that can accommodate over 8,000 people.
