Four local artists created new works meant to honor their beloved fellow musicians we lost to the pandemic.

To commemorate and acknowledge the immense impact COVID-19 has had on the Jazz community, BRIC has commissioned four local artists to create new works meant to honor their beloved fellow musicians we lost to the pandemic. Each artist will premiere a new piece created with this intention as part of their set. VIJAY IYER, whom the NY Times called the “social conscience, multimedia collaborator, system builder, rhapsodist, historical thinker and multicultural gateway” of the NYC scene, headlines, with sets by vibes innovator JOEL ROSS, the singer and multi-instrumentalist MELANIE CHARLES, and the renowned poet, author and educator MAHOGANY BROWNE.
Free performances at the Bandshell are FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. Capacity is limited. RSVPs are not required and do not guarantee entry.
The Lena Horne Bandshell at Prospect Park is home to BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!, New York’s longest-running, free outdoor performing arts festival. Named to honor the legendary singer, actress, dancer, and Brooklyn native Lena Horne, the Bandshell is transformed into a venue every summer that can accommodate over 8,000 people.
