BROOKLYN, NY, February 9, 2022 – Today, BRIC  premieres season six of the podcast series Brooklyn, USA on BRIC TV, the Emmy-winning, nonprofit cable  television channel and digital network featuring community content, produced by BRIC. This season will take an in-depth look at six different languages spoken in Brooklyn and showcase the ways in which Brooklynites build community through language. Each episode will focus on a specific community of speakers, sharing reported stories and personal narratives on the issues impacting that community. The program will also highlight the history and traditions of these communities and bridge their pasts with the futures they are building for themselves.

Brooklyn, USA will feature stories and topics including artists for whom language itself is a musical instrument; religious devotees who use an obscure, ancient language to remain connected to each other and to their homeland; activists who used their threatened language as a rallying cause; and the people working to document and preserve endangered languages throughout the city – including the language spoken by the original indigenous occupants of Brooklyn.

“In Brooklyn, our borough’s diversity of languages and dialects are unrivaled in ways that enrich our lives and experiences. BRIC TV is thrilled to help bring awareness to the many different ways of communicating and relating to one another that exist in this corner of the world each and every day. There are few things that unite us through a common bond like the power of language, and this project helps us understand that truth just a little bit better through the lives of our neighbors all across Brooklyn.”

Brooklyn, USA is a curated, non-fiction digital series that delivers a thematic mix of short documentary, local journalism, personal narratives, sound art, poetry, and audiovisual experimentation. The program presents New York stories told by the people who live them and covers issues that impact our community in its own voice. Brooklyn, USA is presented as an audio podcast, a web page, and a YouTube video playlist and available on all podcast platforms.
