Exhibition Info
Emerging Creators is BRIC’s yearly student exhibition celebrating the work of young artists and media makers from BRIC’s Youth Education Residency Programs in public schools and community centers across Brooklyn and beyond.
This year’s student exhibition showcases a selection of the works created by over 3,200 young artists. BRIC partners its Teaching Artists with more than 40 schools and 12 community-based organizations every year, located across 23 Brooklyn neighborhoods to deliver quality arts education. Emerging Creators is a platform for youth voices exploring diverse topics including community, identity, activism, and current events. Our young artists experimented in a wide range of media, including: mosaic, mixed media, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, podcasting, animation, and filmmaking, to produce artworks that explore the issues and events shaping the post-pandemic world.
BRIC House is a one-stop shop for emerging creators and equips its partners to innovate and document the artistic growth of our youth. The mission of the Youth Education & Family Programs Department is to work with under-resourced communities and schools to nurture creativity while providing access to media education, technology, equipment, and career exploration. This exhibition embodies the creative courage, thoughtfulness, and resiliency of the youth.
Projected on the Gallery’s Garage Door – Films from 10th Annual Concrete Stories: BRIC Youth Media and Film Festival
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Concrete Stories, BRIC’s Youth Media and Film Festival! This is also our inaugural year offering the program as a paid opportunity for 10 New York City high school students to plan, promote, design, judge, select, and exhibit media projects made by youth under 21 years of age.
Concrete Stories aims to promote conversations around the power and potential of young people by showcasing authentic, entertaining, and diverse works. Youth Media Fellows gain skills and professional insight into media careers by collaborating with BRIC’s marketing and production departments to announce and promote the festival to youth across NYC. The Fellows learn video production and editing, hear from various guest speakers, and visit media exhibitions to gain inspiration and execute the Concrete Stories film festival.
The 2023 BRIC Youth Media Fellows worked diligently to organize the 10th Annual Concrete Stories film festival, held on May 25, 2023. BRIC congratulates the Fellows, the award winners, our lead Teaching Artist, and all of the youth filmmakers who participated in the creation of the festival! The works featured here are a collection of short films, documentaries, dramas, experimental films, and animation shorts selected as the 2023 winners and rewarded with awards in directing, storytelling, cinematography, acting, editing, and viewer’s choice.
