BROOKLYN, NY (October 2, 2024) – BRIC JazzFest 2024 is set to mark its 10th anniversary with a dynamic lineup of events, starting with a free outdoor concert by Revive Big Bandon Saturday, October 12 at 3:00 PM. The pop-up performance, held in partnership with Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, will take place at The Plaza at 300 Ashland, setting the stage for the festival’s signature three-day marathon concert series from October 17-19.
Founded by Igmar Thomas, former Music Director for Ms. Lauryn Hill and Nas, Revive Big Band represents a powerful fusion of jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul, blues, and gospel. This multi-generational ensemble, boasting 27 Grammy® nominations and 13 wins among its members, promises an electrifying start to the festival.
“For a decade, BRIC JazzFest has been at the forefront of Brooklyn’s vibrant jazz scene, and this year’s lineup exemplifies our commitment to showcasing both legendary artists and emerging talents,” said BRIC JazzFest Senior Producer Viviana Benitez. “Kicking off with The Revive Big Band’s free concert, we’re inviting the entire community to join in this celebration of jazz’s rich history.”

We are excited this year to host Revive Big Band at The Plaza at 300 Ashland Place, and look forward to celebrating a decade of BRIC JazzFest.”
The festival will also feature a panel discussion on Friday, October 18 at 6:30 PM, titled “Next Jazz Legacy – Why Intergenerational Collaboration and Radical Inclusion Are Essential Anchors for a Vibrant and Enduring Jazz Future.” Moderated by Marcus Moore, the panel will include JazzFest artists Terri Lyne Carrington, Milena Casado, and Makaya McCraven, exploring themes of mentorship, inclusion, and the future of jazz.
The main event, a three-night marathon concert series, will showcase 18 performances from October 17-19. Highlights include:
- October 17: NEA Jazz MasterGary Bartz, acclaimed harpist Brandee Younger, and genre-defying drummer Kassa Overall
- October 18: Cutting-edge drummer Makaya McCravenand jazz luminary Terri Lyne Carrington
- October 19: Powerhouse saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, Reggie Workman, and a special jam session honoring the multi-instrumentalist Casey Benjamin.
This year’s BRIC JazzFest is part of the organization’s “Raised By Brooklyn” campaign, celebrating the borough’s unique role in fostering community and artistic growth. The campaign honors the transformative power of BRIC’s programs and their lasting impact on the Brooklyn community and beyond.
In its 10th year, BRIC JazzFest has become a cornerstone of Brooklyn’s vibrant jazz scene, featuring established icons and emerging talents in an intimate setting. Past performers have included Meshell Ndegeocello, Roy Ayers, Robert Glasper, Sun RaArkestra, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.
