BRIC Announces BRIClab 2024 – 2025 Artists-in-Residence

BRIC will support artists and media makers for one year across three tracks – Contemporary Art, Video Art, and Film + TV

BROOKLYN, NY (October 17, 2024) – BRIC, a leading arts and media institution, is pleased to announce the 2024-2025 cohort of BRIClab artists-in-residence. BRIClab offers critical support and opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists working in three distinct tracks: Contemporary Art, Film + TV, and Video Art. This year, 14 talented artists and collectives joined the residency.

BRIClab aims to build a stronger and more diverse artistic community in Brooklyn by fostering relationships, supporting long-term growth, and creating a pipeline of engagement with BRIC. All residents receive a $2,500 stipend, mentorship, skills-based learning and professional development, and documentation of their work. Additional support, in the form of funding, space, access to equipment and media classes, and other resources vary according to tracks. Public presentations of their work will take place in Spring and Summer 2025.

BRIClab prioritizes applications from disabled, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ artists, in line with BRIC’s ongoing commitment towards addressing systemic inequities in creative fields and industries, and as part of BRIC’s efforts to expand access for disabled artists, audiences, and staff. BRIC will work with all selected artists to support an accessible and accommodating residency. More information about accessibility at BRIC can be found HERE

This announcement coincides with BRIC’s fall 2024 Gallery exhibition to hold a we (on view through Dec. 22, 2024), featuring work by fourteen disabled artists and collectives from the 2023/24 BRIClab residency. Rooted in the principles of Disability Justice and co-curated with the artists, the exhibition poses kinship, abundance, tenderness, and trust as alternatives to structural inaccessibility and exploitation. BRIClab: Contemporary Art expanded its 2023/24 programming to include in-person, virtual, and hybrid participation, and shaped its residency calendar, offerings, and outcomes according to the artists’ needs and interests. These values will continue to shape the 2024/25 BRIClab residency. Learn more about to hold a we and RSVP HERE.
