Building BRIC’s next chapter

Dear BRIC Family,

I hope this holiday season finds you well. If we haven’t met, my name is Robin Jenkins and I have the honor of serving as BRIC’s Interim President.

During my time with all of you at BRIC, I’m committed to acting as a bridge to the next permanent leader of our organization — and to taking care of our community during this crucial time.

Since coming into this role, I’ve spent the past two months meeting countless artists, media makers, and cultural innovators who work with BRIC. I’ve seen firsthand how BRIC makers leverage their voice and craft to not only speak their truth to current cultural moments, but also strive to connect their personal narratives to history while helping us all imagine a better future. It really is phenomenal and breathtaking work.

Every day, I am astounded by the tenacity, commitment, and innovation of our community across the worlds of contemporary art, performing arts, media, and education. In my short time here, I’ve come to understand how deeply rooted programs like the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, our contemporary art gallery and our work with community producers is in the communities that we serve across Brooklyn and beyond. The bones of BRIC are strong and will carry my work as a bridge forward into the organization’s next chapter.

As we continue to move out of the worst of the pandemic and a year of change, I’m reaching out to invite you to support BRIC — and to see yourself in our work — as we head into 2022 and towards a new chapter for our institution.

Today is Giving Tuesday, an international day of giving for nonprofit organizations that falls annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

BRIC, as a nonprofit whose work spans the cultural landscape, relies on the support of our members and folks who enjoy our programming in order to operate. Through your contributions on Giving Tuesday and beyond, you stand alongside the artists and media makers that we serve, and we can’t thank you enough for the role that you play helping us create a Brooklyn where all people have meaningful connections to art, the opportunity to express their creative potential, and the power to transform their world.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear from different individuals across the BRIC universe about the ways your gifts enable us to empower artists, shift culture, and impact the lives of young people each and every day. These BRICsters are teaching artists in public schools across Brooklyn, community producers creating Emmy-winning content, and BRIC artists-in-residence who, in partnership with people like you, are supporting inclusion and belonging for all in the arts and telling meaningful stories about this moment in time.

I may have only been at BRIC for a short time, but I’ve already seen firsthand the role that we all play in this work. You are a part of BRIC just as much as I am and we all have a role to play in building Brooklyn’s creative future. I hope that you will join us in that movement.

All my best,

Robin Jenkins
Interim President, BRIC
