(BROOKLYN, NY – July 31, 2024) – BRIC, a leading multi-disciplinary arts and media institution based in Downtown Brooklyn, is thrilled to announce the return of the acclaimed BRIC JazzFest from October 17 – October 19, 2024 at BRIC House (647 Fulton St). Set across two stages and three nights, this year’s festival promises to be an extraordinary celebration of jazz and its influences across the genre.
Since its inception in 2015, BRIC JazzFest has presented the next generation of cutting-edge jazz talent at BRIC House alongside some of the biggest names in the genre. The festival fosters opportunities for rising stars like Artist CuratorBrandee Younger, who has grown from a “young and new” harpist performing at the first-ever BRIC JazzFest in 2015 to BRIC’s esteemed 2024 curatorial partner.
Brandee Younger states, “BRIC JazzFest 2015 was a transformative experience. The backstage energy was electric, and witnessing Kamasi Washington’s live debut was a career-defining moment. To return as curator a decade later is surreal. Beyond the thrill of performing, I’m deeply honored to celebrate this incredible community of artists. Seeing dear friends ascend to headlining status and discovering fresh talent is a dream come true.”
Born from a vision to celebrate jazz’s richness and potential, BRIC JazzFest has firmly established itself as a Brooklyn institution over the past decade.
The artists joining the 2024 BRIC JazzFest lineup include:
- Makaya McCraven (Oct 18), a prolific drummer, composer, and producer, merges jazz, Hip-Hop, and folk traditions.
- Lakecia Benjamin (Oct 19), a saxophonist, arranger, composer, and educator, combines R&B, jazz, and funk with her warm, resonant tone.
