NYC’S BRIC JAZZFEST ADDS FREE SHOW,FEATURING A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE BY BURNT SUGAR, A CO-PRESENTATION WITH DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN PARTNERSHIP, ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15 IN BROOKLYN
Join BRIC, a leading, multi-disciplinary arts and media institution anchored in downtown Brooklyn, for a free concert, on Saturday, October 15, as part of BRIC JazzFest. In co-presentation with Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, the show will feature a performance by American improvisational band, Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber (BSAC). The newly added performance marks the fourth show that is part of this year’s 2022 BRIC JazzFest festival and will give a taste of what is to be expected at the BRIC House later that month.
The three additional days of the annual music festival take place Thursday, October 20 through Saturday, October 22 at 7pm ET at BRIC House in Downtown Brooklyn (647 Fulton St.) Tickets for the rest of this year’s JazzFest are on sale now, with single day passes starting at $40, three-day passes starting at $95, plus ticket discounts and other benefits for BRIC members.
An art making station provided by Louis Armstrong House Museum and interactive pop up by INFINITI will be part of the festivities.
BRIC, in collaboration with the Louis Armstrong House Museum, will also facilitate an art-making activation for youth and families during the course of the show. Youth and families will be supplied with collage materials to produce their own album covers, inspired by Armstrong’s own collages in the early 1950s when the artist used scrapbooks and the walls of his apartment in Queens, New York, as his canvases.
Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber was founded by recently passed and dearly missed Village Voice icon Greg “Ionman” Tate (1957-2021) and co-led with/and now led by Dayton Ohio “bubble” groove bassist Jared Michael Nickerson, Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber is a sprawling band of musicians whose prodigious personnel allows to freely juggle a wide swath of the experimental soul-jazz-hip hop spectrum. Over the years Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber has made music, broken bread, and covered thousands of road dogg miles worldwide with a host of alumni badasses among them: Somi, Vijay Iyar, Julia Kent, Jeremiah Abiah, Rene Akan, Marc Cary, Honeychild Coleman, Pete Cosey, Morgan Michael Craft, Latasha Nevada Diggs and many more. ”In 2022 Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber celebrates more than two decades of ‘never playing anything the same way once’. As always they give tribute to their sonic Sensei, The Maestro Lawrence Butch Morris(1947–2013) for showing them THE WAY of Conducted Improvisation.
