TD Financial Literacy for Creatives - Small Business Essentials

Marcus Gonzales is the Vice President and Community Business Development Officer for TD’s Metro NY area. One of only two such positions in the Bank’s Main to Florida footprint. Starting his Banking career in 2004 at Commerce Bank (now TD) as a part time teller while finishing his degree at Baruch College. Throughout his tenure at TD, he has held roles as a teller, customer service rep, administrative assistant, commercial loan rep and relationship manager which all ultimately helped ready him for his role as Community Business Development Officer. Born in Trinidad and Tobago and immigrating with his family to the U.S. at the age of 6, he was practically raised by the communities that surrounded him in BedStuy Brooklyn and Far Rockaway Queens. Attending P.S. 243, P.S. 104, I.S.53 (which was formerly a prison) and Hillcrest HS afforded him the public-school education he needed to give him the passion to do better. His strong Caribbean upbringing influenced his focus on education in life. He has facilitated career-day programs in schools, conducted College readiness programs with Big Brother Big Sister for HS seniors, ran workshops for business owners to ensure they have the tools necessary to succeed. Marcus works closely with Community, City and State organizations to ensure that underserved communities receive the support and resources needed. He is focused on advocacy and positively impacting diverse business communities and his 18 plus years of banking has allowed him to become a trusted advisor with local business leaders and community organizations, partnering on financial empowerment.
