Doors open at 6:30PM with happy hour specials till 8:00PM

 

The week-long BRIC JazzFest culminates in a two-night marathon with ensembles performing overlapping sets in multiple spaces throughout BRIC House. The evening is designed so you can move freely among performances and catch a piece of all nine artists in each night, or select a few favorites and catch their whole show. Set times subject to change.

The first night of the marathon features:

 

Tenor saxophonist Kamasi Washington is “the most talked about show and album in recent L.A. jazz history” (LA Weekly) whose music is “like Charles Mingus and Ornette Coleman interwoven with the sounds of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac.” (LA Downtown News)

Players include Brandon Coleman (Keys), Jamael Dean (Keys), Kamasi Washington (Sax), Miles Mosley (upright Bass), Patrice Quinn (Vocalist), Ronald Bruner Jr (Drums), Ryan Porter (Trombone), Tony Austin (Drums)

 

Nir Felder has been called “the next big jazz guitarist” by NPR, hailed by the New York Times as a “whiz kid”, and dubbed “incredible” by the Montreal Gazette.

Post-bop, soul jazz trumpeter Takuya Kuroda is “brimming with swagger, bold ambition, and breathtaking energy.” (JazzCorner)

Dessy Di Lauro’s Neo-Ragtime is “feathered fro-hawk futuristic Art Deco-centric Harlem renaissance hep music.” (Dessy)

Pianist Kris Bowers plays “genre-bending jazz that touches upon contemporary R&B, electronica, and forward-thinking modal improvisation.” (All Music)

Bassist Ben Williams & Sound Effect is “one of the youngest and brightest musicians on the scene today.” (Blue Note)

Dawn Of Midi “bridge between Ancient and contemporary dance musics.” (The Village Voice)

Brandee Younger “taps into the spiritual well that fueled the art of both Ashby and Coltrane, yet she remains ever-cognizant of the time in which she lives and plays.” (All About Jazz)

DJ Rich Medina is “a pioneer in the American DJ community.” (Complex)

 

 

Venue Information:

BRIC House is Brooklyn’s cultural living room: a 40,000 square foot multi-disciplinary arts and media complex in the former Strand Theatre, where emerging and established artists can create work that deepens their practice and engages the diverse communities of the borough.
