Innovative Afro-futurist griots Soul Science Lab are a powerhouse multimedia duo performing music that represents Brooklyn’s global tapestry of sound. Our Brooklyn-based openers Olivia K and The Parkers exhilarate listeners with their dynamic fusion of soul, jazz, and gospel. Bring your family to enjoy fun activities on the lawn and incredible music at our all-ages dance party.

*Please Note: A limited amount of chairs will be available at this show, but you are also permitted to bring your own. For our d/Deaf and hard of hearing communities, we will have an ASL interpreter at the left side of the stage.

About the Artists

Soul Science Lab (SSL) is a music and multimedia duo powered by Chen Lo and Asante Amin. The two are storytellers who inspire the future. SSL is dedicated to creating a celebrated body of work and cultivating the next generation of iconic artists. The duo’s current projects include Soundtrack ’63, Make a Joyful Noize (commissioned by Carnegie Hall), and The Renaissance Mixtape (commissioned by the Apollo Theater). SSL has released three studio albums: Footprints, The Visitor: Alter Destiny, and Plan for Paradise. SSL has also developed a culturally responsive education platform for music creatives and educators at Soul Science University—just call them innovative Afro-futuristic griots. Chen Lo is a seasoned emcee, songwriter, educator and creative director. Asante Amin is a gifted multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and educator.

Olivia K and The Parkers is the brainchild of Olivia K, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and fearless leader. After playing such venues as Baby’s All Right and City Winery early on, OK&P exploded onto the scene at Sony Hall. Opening for Kermit Ruffins, the band turned a dumbstruck crowd into their congregation. Now, OK&P are embarking on their next point of departure: The Sankofa Project! A meditative act of creation and closure, the OK&P crew intend to record Olivia’s entire catalogue of songs. Most of these were never put to track. In doing so, the band commits itself to the wisdom of the Ghanaian symbol, Sankofa. It reminds us: to move forward in these uncertain times, we must first confront the demons of the past. Within a month of announcing the project, the band blew past their crowdfunding goal. When not in the studio, Olivia K and The Parkers are still electrifying venues across NYC and beyond. Their all-Brooklyn fusion of soul, jazz, gospel, and art rock speaks to expansive minds and righteous spirits everywhere.

Please note: RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Entry is first come first served, but RSVPs help you stay up-to-date on show information.
