It’s Showtime NYC! dancers host a jam session for NYC’s street dance community and fans at BRIC, the very location where in the 1990’s BCAT public access TV channel aired the influential Flex N Brooklyn, showcasing the seminal Brooklyn-pioneered street dance and music genre that evolved out of Jamaican bruk up dance.

All style dancers and fans welcome.

About It’s Showtime NYC!

It’s Showtime NYC! in its 11th year, has become one of the largest street dance programs and companies in New York City. A program of the non-profit organization Dancing in the Streets, It’s Showtime NYC! provides performance, choreographic, teaching and paid professional development opportunities to NYC’s self-taught street, club, and subway dancers. The group was the first resident street dance company at The Metropolitan Museum of Arts’ MetLiveArts, and created original work Battle! Hip Hop In Armor. Commissions include: Works and Process at the Guggenheim, Abrons Arts Center, the Shed, Symphony Space, Bryant Park Dance Series, NOO Arts, Weeksville Heritage Center, Jamaica Performing Arts Center and HarlemStage. The dancers have collaborated with the NY Philharmonic in a partnership with Casita Maria, and Bill T. Jones at the Park Avenue Armory. They performed at Works & Process at Alice Tully Hall & Summerstage, Jacobs Pillow, Lincoln Center, Wave Hill, Red Hook Festival, LoveIsLove at Williamsburg Music Hall, LayeRhythm at Public Records and Nublu, The Apollo, The South Bronx Culture Trail, Bronx Museum of the Arts, River to River festival to name a few. Dancers have won championships at street dance battles including Battlefest and Roundz of Flame.

Program members participated in cultural exchanges in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Brazil. It’s Showtime NYC! was nominated for a 2020 Bessie Award for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer. Residencies have been held at: Brooklyn Bridge Park, Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center, Bethany Arts Center, MANCC at Florida State University, Anderson Center in Minnesota, LMCC/Governors Island, and Gibney DIP Artist in Residence. Teaching artists offer classes focused on street dance forms pioneered in NYC. The program is led by Artistic and Program Director, and Bed-Stuy native, Cal Hunt, with creative contributions from program alum, OG’s and pioneers from NYC’s street dance community.
