This free, community building event is exclusively for youth, educators, and parents. Our goal is to provide an inspiring, educational opportunity for youth to learn about the lasting legacy Ms. Chisholm has had on millions.

Unbossed & Unbowed is an immersive and interactive solo show about the 1st African-American woman to run for the Presidency of the U.S. In the 1960s and ’70s, this Brooklyn-born daughter of Caribbean parents was on a mission. They called her the black Joan of Arc. She called herself Fighting Shirley as she faced off against the political machine in the name of justice.

Experience history coming alive at BRIC with Unbossed & Unbowed, an immersive and interactive one-woman show starring Ingrid Griffith. This compelling performance details the life of the first African-American woman to run for the Presidency of the United States. Born in Brooklyn to Caribbean parents, she was dubbed the “Black Joan of Arc.”

Known as ‘fighting’ Shirley, she boldly challenged the political machine in her relentless pursuit of justice during the tumultuous 1960s and ’70s.
